Charging up: Motability Scheme EV Experience Days come to Essex: Motability Scheme customer charging an EV

The Motability Scheme is running a free EV Experience Day at GRIDSERVE in Braintree, Essex on Thursday 4 July.

With over 18,000 Motability Scheme customers in Essex, this EV Experience Day will give local people a chance to learn everything they need to know about electric vehicles on the Motability Scheme (EVs).

As the government’s Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) mandate approaches, manufacturers are producing more and more EVs. Motability Operations, the organisation which runs the life changing Motability Scheme, wants to ensure customers can stay connected to the world around them through their Scheme vehicles, so is offering visitors the chance to book a slot in the driver’s seat of an EV.

James Hunt, a Motability Scheme Ambassador who will be attending the event, says: “I am interested in getting an EV as our next Scheme car, but I still have some reservations about range and charging, so I want to find out more about them before taking the plunge.

"I'm really excited to attend the Motability Scheme's EV Experience Day to find out all the essential information and get behind the wheel myself to take one for a test drive!"

On the day, Scheme experts will be on hand to help customers find an EV to suit their lifestyle. Visitors will have a chance to ask their questions about topics like charging and range, and Scheme partners and home chargepoint provider, Ohme, will be demonstrating how their products work.

Feedback from previous events show customers felt more confident about EV range, charging, running costs, apps and accessibility after attending, with a 24 per cent increase in overall confidence.

Ashleigh Evans, Events Manager at Motability Operations, added:

“We know that the automotive industry is changing quickly, and we are committed to making sure our 760,000 customers don't get left behind in the transition to EV.

“By hosting our EV Experience days, we hope to boost our customers’ confidence and understanding of electric vehicles - so they can make the right choice when they’re selecting their next Motability Scheme vehicle.”

The event is free to attend, but all test drives must be booked in advance via the booking page on Eventbrite. Visitors will need to hold a full UK driving licence to take a test drive and will need to have this with them on the day.

The 2024 full EV Experience Day event series includes:

  • GRIDSERVE Braintree, Essex – 4 July 2024
  • Donnington Park, Derby – 3 October 2024

About the Motability Scheme

We are the company that delivers the Motability Scheme to over 760,000 disabled people and their families, helping them access independent mobility.

Since we began running the Motability Scheme 45 years ago, we have helped more than 5 million people get moving. People who receive higher or enhanced mobility allowance can join the scheme. They decide to use their allowance to choose from a wide range of cars, wheelchair accessible vehicles, powered wheelchairs or scooters.

Our scale and relationship with manufacturers makes sure we provide the very best technology and design.

Customers lease their vehicle for 3-5 years in a worry-free package that includes insurance, servicing, tyres and breakdown cover. At the end of the lease, they can choose a brand-new vehicle and we remarket their old vehicle at the best possible price. We are the largest supplier of used cars in the UK.

We don’t pay shareholder dividends and the money we make is invested back into benefitting our customers and disabled mobility.

We pride ourselves on knowing and understanding our customers and have expectational customer service at the heart of everything we do. We have an average of 9.6/10 customer satisfaction rating.
