The lunch is part of the 2024 Christmas Cheer campaign, a programme run by Marmalade Trust, an award-winning charity dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness.
This is the first time Motability Operations, which runs the Motability Scheme, has participated in this campaign. The lunch is being supported by 21 Motability Operations employees and some of their families, who are volunteering their time to host this event and distribute hampers prepared by the charity.
Mark Brown, Head of Impact and Sustainability at Motability Operations said:
This event is an example of who we are and what we do at Motability Operations. We believe in making a positive impact on people and the communities we operate in. By partnering with Marmalade Trust, we are bringing to life the principles of our business and making a difference to people’s lives.
The Christmas Cheer dinner is one of many causes that Motability Operations supports to benefit local communities and prioritize positive social outcomes. Another Bristol initiative is the accessible allotment where employees grow and donate produce that has fed over 300 people this past year. This year’s work with The Marmalade Trust marks a milestone for the charity as the first time they have partnered with a business to host the Christmas Cheer initiative.
Ryan Gold, a Customer Experience Specialist and organizer of the event, said:
After previously volunteering with the organisation, I knew we could create a sense of community and connection for those who may be alone this Christmas. I’m incredibly proud of the event, hard work and generosity shown by our colleagues and volunteers. I am also grateful to Marmalade Trust for their support with this event.
The Marmalade Trust has been dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness and creating pathways for social connection since 2013. Christmas Cheer invites project members experiencing isolation to enjoy a free festive meal or doorstep visit from volunteers. In preparation for the event, Marmalade Trust conducted a volunteer training session with Motability in October ensuring that employees are equipped to provide meaningful connection to attendees.
Xanne Cary from Marmalade Trust said:
The work we do, including our Christmas Cheer initiative, will help us create a society where we recognise loneliness exists and support each other to make new connections. This year’s event was a great example of what can happen when people come together to support one another.
