Adapted Test Drive Days will give disabled drivers the opportunity to improve their knowledge of adapted vehicles and try some out for themselves.
There are over 49,000 Scheme customers across Northern Ireland, who all have varying accessibility needs, and this event will give them an opportunity to try out some of the most popular driving adaptations available on the Motability Scheme.
Driving adaptations including steering aids, hand controls, swivel chairs and hoists, can make vehicles easier to use for many Motability Scheme customers. On the day, Scheme experts and representatives from Driving Mobility will be available to give advice and answer questions, so customers can find driving solutions that meet their individual needs.
As the automotive industry shifts to electric vehicles (EVs), Motability Operations is preparing its customers for the future. The organisation wants to ensure its customers feel comfortable and confident driving an EV, and to help make this happen there will be a range of EVs fitted with popular driving adaptations at the event.
For those customers who are not ready to try out an EV, there will also be traditional petrol and diesel cars available to test drive.
Ash Evans, Events Manager at Motability Operations, said:
“With hundreds of adaptations available on the Scheme it can be a minefield for our customers to navigate. That’s why we’re bringing back our Adapted Test Drive Days for 2024.
“On the day, we’ll have some of the most popular adaptations for customers to try out and our experts will be on hand to help customers find the best solutions that work for them, so we can keep them mobile.”
The event is free to attend, and the full list of vehicles and adaptations can be found here. Test drives must be booked in advance via Eventbrite. Visitors can book a maximum of three test drive slots and will need to hold a full UK driving licence to take a test drive and will need to bring this on the day.
