Tim Harris appointed to oversee insurance at Motability Operations: Tim Harris Insurance Director Motability Operations

Motability Operations has appointed Tim Harris as its Insurance Director, responsible for the insurance activity of more than 700,000 customers on the Motability Scheme, as well as the company’s captive, MO Reinsurance Ltd. Tim has a long history of success in the insurance industry and starts his new position in October.

Motability Operations runs the Motability Scheme, helping disabled people and their families access independent mobility by providing cars, wheelchair accessible vehicles, scooters, and powered wheelchairs, in exchange for their mobility allowance. The company is the largest vehicle leasing organisation in the UK.

Tim Harris said:

"I’m thrilled to be joining Motability Operations and to begin this role at such a customer-centred organisation. I’ll be working to ensure the insurance provision delivers for customers, as well as providing oversight of the reinsurance captive, MORL.

"I am looking forward to joining such a purpose-led business and am confident the insurance activities will continue to go from strength to strength over the coming years.”

Andrew Miller, chief executive of Motability Operations, said:

"We know the Motability Scheme can be life-changing, and we know how important the worry-free package that comes with every lease is to our customers. Having insurance for three named drivers is a crucial part of the service.

"Tim’s appointment ensures a core focus on our insurance function and will make sure we continue to develop and meet the needs of our customers in this area.”

Tim has previously worked in a number of senior executive positions in the insurance industry including with Aviva plc, as CFO of Direct Line Group, Group CFO and Deputy CEO of Royal London and Group CFO of Torus Insurance. In addition to his responsibilities at Motability Operations, Tim is an independent Non-Executive Director at Phoenix Life and Hiscox Syndicates Ltd.

Earlier this month, Motability Operations migrated its insurance provision to Direct Line Group (DLG). Just over 700,000 customer insurance records were transferred to DLG to provide the insurance for Motability Scheme vehicles. The transition brings further benefits to the company’s customers, including access to specialist repairers and improved application and digital processes.

Other benefits for customers include the ability to add three drivers to their policy at the application stage, as well as manage named drivers and change personal details via their Motability Scheme online account. The transition also means customers can benefit from DLG’s extensive repair network, now offering collection and delivery to all customers as part of the repair service, particularly important for Motability Operations’ disabled customer base.

About Motability Operations

We are the commercial company that delivers the Motability Scheme to over 700,000 disabled people and their families, helping them access independent mobility.

Since we began running the Motability Scheme 45 years ago, we have helped more than 5 million people get moving. People who receive higher or enhanced mobility allowance can join the scheme. They decide to use their allowance to choose from a wide range of cars, wheelchair accessible vehicles, powered wheelchairs or scooters.

Our scale and relationship with manufacturers makes sure we provide the very best technology and design.

Customers lease their vehicle for 3-5 years in a worry-free package that includes insurance, servicing, tyres and breakdown cover. At the end of the lease they can choose a brand-new vehicle and we remarket their old vehicle at the best possible price. We are the largest supplier of used cars in the UK.

We don’t pay shareholder dividends and the money we make is invested back into benefitting our customers and disabled mobility.

We pride ourselves on knowing and understanding our customers and have expectational customer service at the heart of everything we do. We have an average of 9.6/10 customer satisfaction rating.
